The image described two naked women lying in bed and kissing. The background of this picture is in a brothel where the artist watched the lives of prostitutes, and he was interested in their love affairs. He was interested in lesbians and wanted to tell their stories. He painted this ode to a special kind of love in 1892 as one of four paintings of female couples. These scenes launched a series of his works that describe the lives of women who have no choice but to surrender to reality.
